The audiovisual industry has grown, giving editors opportunities in a variety of fields including Film, Television, VOD, Social Media, Commercials, Branded Content and Music Video. Editors need to be able to demonstrate their skills and expertise by showcasing their work through the strongest possible reel. This workshop is for editors who want to learn how to build attractive and powerful reels that can take their careers to the next level.

Learn from the best. Instructor Luis Zerón has edited series for Netflix and HBO, feature films, documentaries, music videos, and commercials. He is a member of the AMAE (Spanish Association of Editors) based in Mexico City. Pictured above: El Chapo (Netflix).

Over four weeks, students will have the opportunity to build and sharpen their reels. We will review the cuts in class and you will receive constructive notes so that you can continue to work on your reels between sessions. Throughout it all, we’ll examine key aspects of editing to help you sharpen your skills. The goal is for students to leave the workshop with a finished reel or an improved version of an existing one.

We’ll explore the close relationship between a montage and a reel, rhythm and pacing, image juxtaposition, selecting and organizing your footage, structure, and how to reflect your style by choosing the right music.  We’ll examine how to move from the first cut through fine-tuning to a final cut. The class will also explore how to share your demo reel, and ideas for promotion, and developing a media kit.

Instructor: Luis Zerón

Luis Zerón has edited series for Netflix and HBO, feature films, documentaries, music videos, and commercials. Based in Mexico City, he is a member of the AMAE (Spanish Association of Editors).

Most recently, Luis was Lead Editor for the Netflix global hit series “Triptych” which premiered in 2023. He was also Lead Editor on the Netflix global hit series “Dark Desire” (seasons one and two, 2020-2022) and an editor on “Yankee” (2019, Netflix), “Ingobernable” (2018, Netflix), “El Chapo” (2017, Netflix), and “Sr. Ávila” (2016, HBO), an international Emmy Award-winner. He also recently worked on the feature documentary “Out of Reach: The Struggle of the American Dream” (Socially Distant Productions), which is currently in post-production.

He has a Master of Fine Arts in Media Arts from Maine Media College, a Masters degree in Film Editing from ESCAC Barcelona, and a BA in Communication from the Universidad Iberoamericana Puebla. He teaches editing workshops and mentors MFA students at Maine Media.
