The class meets on Saturday, Oct 19 from 10am-12pm ET.

Learn a simple bookmaking technique that is perfect for families and kids ages 5 and up (assisted with a parent, grandparent, or guardian, as needed). Prior to this online workshop, you will be asked to forage in nature, connect with your surroundings, and then create using that inspiration. 

During our time together we will construct a book with glue, paper, collage, and other materials while also incorporating painting, drawing, and the foraged items.

Note: Please be ready to step outside into nature with your child to forage and collect inspiration for your book!

Required Supplies

Note: Links to supplies will be provided before class begins.

  • Pre-cut watercolor paper 11×14 and up in size, 24-40 sheets suggested.
  • Collage scraps.
  • Glue.

Suggested Wet and Dry Mediums:

Note: It is not necessary to have all of the wet and dry mediums; just a few will be great!

  • Oil Pastel.
  • Soft pastels.
  • Paint sticks.
  • Colored pencil.
  • Crayon.
  • Acrylic inks.
  • Watercolor paint.
  • Acrylic paint.
  • Paint brushes, different sizes.

Instructor: Charlene Lutz

Charlene Lutz is an artist and educator with over 20 years of experience in multiple school and nature-connected settings. She hopes to hold space and empower others by inspiring creativity in emergent and collaborative ways. Offering workshops and retreats across Maine and beyond, Charlene supports children and adults in finding their authentic, creative voice.

Charlene has a BFA from Pratt Institute and has a Masters in education. She is currently on the Katahdin Children and Families Foundation committee to hold monthly art workshops in their self-directed learning space called The Orchard. She is also a teaching artist for Waterville Creates in Waterville, Maine and an adjunct at Antioch University in New England. She facilitates art and wellness workshops with Inside-Outside Nature Based Educators (Antioch University).
